"Teutonic Torun"
The Teutonic Knights - in fact, the Brothers of the Order of the Hospital of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the German House in Jerusalem - are very strongly connected with the history of Torun. It was they who gave it city rights in 1233 and were its rulers for over 200 years. In the shadow of the Teutonic castle, the city experienced a period of its greatest economic prosperity, but at the same time it became increasingly discouraged by the strict rule of the Order. Since the anti-Teutonic uprising of 1454 in Torun, there are no longer knights under the sign of the black cross. However, there are many interesting monuments and places that remember their presence. We invite you for a walk along the "Teutonic Torun"!
